The 50th World Economic Forum Annual Meeting was held in Davos, Switzerland, from January 21 to 24, 2020. The theme of this year’s Davos Annual Meeting was “Stakeholders for a Cohesive and Sustainable World”. The participants included Han Zheng, Member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Vice-Premier of the People’s Republic of China; Donald Trump, President of the United States of America; Lee Hsien Loong, Prime Minister of Singapore and other representatives from political and government delegations, business leaders, academic representatives, art and media leaders.
As the only Hong Kong financial institution among the World Economic Forum Strategic Partner Associates, AMTD Group will set up the “AMTD House” at the Davos Forum for the third consecutive year and host a series of theme activities including「Smart Asia: Connecting Greater Bay Area with ASEAN」,「Greater Bay Entrepreneurship Day」, etc. to comprehensively demonstrate the achievements of China’s Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area in promoting digital technology innovation and regional economic development.

1 AMTD held “Smart Asia: Connecting Greater Bay Area with ASEAN”, and Carrie Lam, S.Iswaran, Wen Guohui and David Aikman officiated the ceremony
AMTD held “Smart Asia: Connecting Greater Bay Area with ASEAN” at AMTD House and invited Mrs. Carrie Lam, Chief Executive of Hong Kong SAR, to officiate the ceremony. Mr. Wen Guohui, Mayor of Guangzhou, Mr. S. Iswaran, Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, and Mr. David Aikman, Chief Representative Officer of Greater China and Member of the Executive Committee of World Economic Forum were also invited to attend the ceremony. The event showcases the development achievements and opportunities of the connection between China Greater Bay Area and ASEAN on the global stage.
2 AMTD partnered with Xiaomi, SMU and NUS to establish the “Singapore Digital Finance Leadership Programme”
Under the witness of Mr. S Iswaran, Singapore’s Minister for Communications and Information and Minister-in-charge of Trade Relations, and Mr. Calvin Choi, Chairman and CEO of AMTD Group, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Prof. Timothy Tong, CEO of AMTD Foundation; Mr. Shouzi Chew, Senior Vice President, President of International, and CFO of Xiaomi Corporation; Professor Tan Eng Chye, President of the National University of Singapore; Professor Annie Koh, Vice President of the Business Development of Singapore Management University, V3 Group Professor of Family Entrepreneurship and Professor of Finance (Practice). They jointly announced the establishment of “Singapore Digital Finance Leadership Programme” which aims to hone the management and leadership capabilities of the aspiring young digital finance leaders in Asia.

Carrie Lam visited “AMTD Hotel” at Davos. Not only AMTD House, AMTD also opened AMTD Hotel this year to host our partners from all over the world, and our families and friends of “AMTD SpiderNet”. This is also the first hotel that was opened by Chinese company at Davos, and it showcases the charm and diversified culture of Hong Kong on the global stage.

Elaine Chao, United State Secretary of Transportation, visited AMD House, and Calvin Choi briefed her the recent development of AMTD Group. She acknowledged AMTD for its effort to support Chinese companies to be listed in US and connect the capital markets between US and China. She also invited AMTD Group to further expand the business and explore the investment opportunities in US.
