On 22nd January, during the annual meeting of the World Economic Forum in Davos, Singapore Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat visited AMTD House and was warmly welcomed by Calvin Choi, Chairman and President of AMTD Group and thesenior management team. He hoped that AMTD can help to promote economic and technologic cooperation between Hong Kong, Singapore and Southeast Asia. He is a Singaporean politician, the core member of the 4th leading team. He served as the Principal Private Secretary to former Prime Minister Lee Kuan Yew, the Managing Director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) and the Minister for Education previously. Since 2015, he has been serving as the Minister for Finance and appointed as the first assistant secretary-general of the People’s Action Party since November 2018.

Calvin Choi introduced the development of AMTD Group to Heng Swee Keat, especially the effort of the establishment of the Greater Bay Young Entrepreneurs Association that led by AMTD Group, the strategic cooperation alliance “Regional Banks +” that jointly launched with the leading regional banks in China, and the cooperation with International Finance Corporation (IFC) to promote green finance and inclusive finance. Heng Swee Keat highly appreciated and thanked AMTD Group for its contribution to promote the economic and technological development of Singapore in recent years. Also, he exchanged the opinions with Calvin Choi on the topics of how to develop innovative economy and FinTech better in Singapore, and promote exchange and cooperation between corporations in Singapore, Hong Kong and the Mainland China. Heng Swee Keat hopes that AMTD can act as the new representative of Hong Kong financial institution, continue to expand the development layout in Singapore and the entire ASEAN region, contribute to the promotion of China-Singapore economic and trade cooperation and exchanges, and promote Singapore’s FinTech and innovation economy.

AMTD also established a deep cooperative relationship with the Singapore Exchange and has conducted many discussions on the innovative development of the ASEAN capital markets and the business opportunities in China. In November 2018, AMTD announced to jointly invest A-round financing in AwanTunai, the leading FinTech platform in Indonesia with Insignia Ventures Partners, the leading venture capital investment company in Southeast Asia, to promote the coordinated development of FinTech in ASEAN.
